Got junk in your trunk? How about junk in your house, backyard, or job site? No worries! If you’re wondering what to do with all of your junk, and you can’t be bothered making a million trips to the dump, the good news is that you’ve got options!

We’re Pink Bins, you might have seen us around. Or, more accurately, you might have seen our Barbie-pink skips, portaloos, and flexibags around Auckland. What’s that? You think our pink bins are really cool and eye-catching? Well, thank you! It’s so kind of you to say so!

Anyway, we’re not here to talk about us! We’re here to talk about you and your junk. So, without further ado, let’s go over your options for removing your rubbish; you could choose skip hire, purchase a skip bag, or you could consider rubbish removal…

The Alternative To Skip Hire: Rubbish Removal

Well, well, well… What do we have here? One minute you’re complementing our beautiful Pink Bins, and the next, you’re looking for an alternative to skip hire?!

Fair enough! You’ve got to explore all of your options!

First of all, what is rubbish removal? It’s a super hands-off option for getting rid of your waste. Usually it’ll be charged by the volume of waste you would like removed (i.e. half a trailer), so it can be super simple and super easy. Sounds great, right?

While Pink Bins focuses on providing skip bins and skip bags for the do-it-yourself Kiwi, we know Pink Bins and Pink Bags aren’t the right solutions for everyone. However, we happen to know a thing or two about removing people’s rubbish, so let us walk you through the pros and cons of paying for a rubbish removal service, as opposed to hiring a skip bin.

Benefits of rubbish removal

Benefits of rubbish removal

Rubbish removal is convenient! Just like when you hire a skip bin, or a skip bag, a rubbish removal service is a convenient way to get rid of the rubbish around your home or place of work, and it saves you the time and hassle of taking a trip to the dump. Also, if you have awkward-sized or heavier objects to dispose of, it’s great to have someone there to do the heavy lifting and manoeuvring for you.

Rubbish removal may work out cheaper, if you don’t have too much to get rid of. There’s no point hiring a whole Pink Bin, or Pink Bag if you’ve only got a small amount of waste to get rid of – rubbish removers could be a great option for you. Think of what you could do with the money you save! Maybe you could put it towards treating yourself to a new BBQ in anticipation of the warmer weather?

Rubbish removal is quick! It could be over and done with before you can heat up your new BBQ! It’s quick and painless, so you can spend less time sorting out your waste, and more time enjoying the finer things in life… like your new barbie (as in, barbecue, not Barbie doll, but no judgement if you’d like to treat yourself to a Barbie doll instead of a barbecue)!

Rubbish removal saves space. You don’t have to worry about fitting a skip in somewhere, and we all know that in Auckland, that can certainly be an issue!

Downsides of rubbish removal

It’s not as cost-effective as a skip hire, if you’ve got a large amount of rubbish to get rid of. Essentially, you’re paying for convenience. While it is awesome that you don’t have to lift a finger, that does come with a price – not ideal if you’re trying to manage your waste on a budget

You’ve got to be ready for the removers. You’ll need to get yourself and your rubbish ready for when your rubbish removers arrive. Unlike when you hire a skip bin, and you have the whole of the hire period to fill it, when you order rubbish removal, you’ve got to make sure everything is ready to go, otherwise you may have to book an extra pickup.

You’ve got to be there when it happens. You’ve got to make sure that the rubbish removers don’t accidentally take the wrong things, or leave behind something you’re desperate to be free of. Depending on your schedule and your rubbish removal company’s availability, it might make the booking in a time a little tricky.

Rubbish removers may have limited space for your waste. Because they likely collect from a number of other locations along the way, it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to set aside their whole truck or trailer for your rubbish. If you have a lot to get rid of, it’s a good idea to let them know ahead of time to see if they can accommodate it.

Rubbish removal may not be available at your location. Depending on where you are, you might find it a challenge to find a removal company that will come to you, so it might be easier to do a few runs to the dump yourself, or hire a skip bin.

skip hire vs rubbish removal

So, which is the better option for you?

With a rubbish removal service, there’s no need to worry about where to put a skip, or what your neighbours might think about it blocking their view, or worse yet, their access. However, you do need to be prepared for when your rubbish removers come, and you do need to be prepared to pay more for the service.

If you want your waste sorted ASAP, you don’t want to, or are unable to do it yourself, and you don’t care about the cost, a rubbish removal service might be perfect for you!

If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, you have the space for a skip, and you’d like to save some cash, hiring a skip bin could be the better solution. Ultimately, it’s a personal preference and there is no one size fits all when it comes to disposing of waste.

If you decide you’d like to hire a skip, we have pretty good skips, and they’re pretty. If you’d like to compare prices, you can head over to our Quick Quote form, and select the skip you’d like, or just give us a call and we’ll help you Think Pink
